Our sweet, handsome "baby" boy is ONE YEAR OLD! We just can't believe it! I know everyone says this, but this first year has really flown by. God has blessed us beyond measure and we have enjoyed every minute of watching Caleb grow and learn about the world around him. We are so thankful that God has chosen US to be Caleb's parents! We just can't imagine our life without the little guy!
It is so hard to believe that in just one year's time, this precious little newborn....
has grown into this handsome little boy!
At 12 months, Caleb...
...weighs 22 lbs 8 oz (50%), is 31.5 inches long (97%), and head circumfrence is 19 inches (90%). He is still long and lean, but Dr. Turner said he looks great! (all measurements from his 1-year appt on 8/25)
...still: wears size 12 month clothes and size 3 diapers, takes 2 naps a day (1-2 hrs each), goes to bed around 7:30pm and sleeps about 12 hours, takes a paci for naps and at night, drinks 6-8 oz of formula every 4 hours and eats solids 3 times a day, drinks juice and water from a straw cup (but won't drink formula), says "dadada" and "bababa", and has 6 teeth!
...says "Tag" (taaaa) and "ball" (baaaa)
...loves opening and closing doors and drawers still (probably one of his favorite activities). He's gotten a lot better about not closing his fingers in drawers, so I guess he finally figured that out.
...tried waffles and pancakes and loved both! We are in somewhat of an adjustment period with food as he is not really wanting baby food much anymore, but he can't quite eat everything we eat. He really likes feeding himself (w/his hands) over being fed with a spoon, so I'm trying to figure out good things he can pick up and feed himself.
...refuses to keep his cup on his tray after he's done taking a drink. He throws it on the floor every single time. I don't know how to combat this b/c he does not understand me when I tell him not to throw it on the floor. Guess this will come with time.
...gets up on his knees and lunges for me when he wants me to pick him up. I've noticed that he now will come to me on his own when he has a poopy diaper.
...is always crawling around with something in his hand (usually one of his toy "cookies" from his cookie jar). If he's on the wood floor or tile you can hear him coming as he hits whatever it is he's carrying on the ground, LOL.
...loves to hit two things together to make noise.
...will start clapping his hands and smile really big if you start singing "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands" - so cute!
...will (sometimes) follow simple commands like "come this way" (when I want him to follow me out of a room) or "don't touch" (we need a lot of work on this one!).
...will give you something when you ask for it (most of the time). We are working on "please" and "thank you"...not him saying it...but for example, I will say "Caleb, please let mommy have ______" and then when he gives it to me, I will say "thank you." He's actually doing quite well at this and even smiles when you tell him thank you. :)
...gives "sugars" - huge open mouth kisses, LOL. If I say "Caleb, give Mama a sugar" and make a kissy sound, he'll give me a sugar....love it! Actually, it's almost like he's trying to bite my face, haha.
...has 2 new bottom teeth coming in, so this will be #7 and 8.
AND, OF COURSE...
...is still the sweetest, most handsome little boy ever!
one of his favs - his cookie jar!
playing (and making a mess) in his room...
trying to dump over the dogs' water...
this is Roux staring down some toast crumbs that got dropped into a toy basket in the kitchen, LOL
opening and closing the kitchen drawers...
he likes to carry toys in his mouth (his "Little People" are just the perfect size)
dogs standing in the handout line in the kitchen, haha (he hasn't figured out how to feed them yet, but they still stand around his chair waiting for food to fall)
This is a picture of Rhett when he was a little guy (sorry for the glare). Maybe I see a little bit of Rhett in Caleb :)
looking at Daddy's picture
yep, that's trouble all right!
trying to figure out our ghetto cabinet lock (a hair tie)
opening cabinets, another fun kitchen activity!
hmm...I just noticed that in most of these pictures, Caleb is in his jammies! Guess we had a lot of jammie days this month! Another theme I notice is Caleb getting into everything!
