Aubrey is 18 Months Old!

IMG_0888

WOW!  It’s been a long time since I’ve written a monthly post for our sweet girl.  The last one I did was at 14 months – oops!!  Blogging took a huge back burner towards the end of last year….obviously!  Each month, I have been thinking that I wanted to sit down and do a post but then I’d never get around to it.  Now it’s been several months and I couldn’t even go back and fill those in b/c my memory would fail me!  So, I will try to play catch up with this 18-month post.  This will be really long b/c I’m catching up on 4 months!  I will do pictures in a separate post.

*  Weighed 21 1/2 lbs (25%) at her 18 month well-child (she was fully dressed, though so she’s actually a little less).  She’s 32 inches tall (50%) and her head circumference is 17 1/4 inches (2%).  These are pretty much the same percentiles she’s been in for a while.

*  Wearing some 12-month clothes still (some bottoms) and 18 month tops.  She’s pretty close to moving up to 24 month tops and maybe 18 month bottoms.  The problem with the bottoms is her tiny waist!  Her tiny little feet fit into a size 4 infant shoe, but I never put her in shoes since she’s not walking. She wears a size 4 diaper.

*  Our routine is in a transitional stage right now, which is kinda hard.  She’s been doing well for a while taking two naps a day, but over the past month she has been either skipping the afternoon nap or taking a really long time (1 hour +) to fall asleep.  So last week, I began to attempt dropping the morning nap.  So far, we haven’t really gotten it worked out well yet.  She starts wearing down mid-morning and it’s hard to keep her up until after lunch.  On Tues/Thurs when Caleb is at school, she takes just one nap from 11:45am to just before 2pm and I always have to wake her up to go get Caleb.  But, other days when we’ve skipped the morning nap and I put her down around noon, she’s up by 1:30pm….which makes for a REALLY long afternoon!!  We are still trying to figure this out!

*  Still mostly wakes up between 6-6:30am.  She used to stay in her crib pretty well until after 7am, but she’s now become more impatient about getting up.  However, I refuse to get her up before 7am so she’s got to tough it out, LOL.  A few mornings after days when she didn’t nap well, she slept until 8am.  That was nice!  Oh, and she goes to bed between 7:30-8pm, most nights.

*  We are still going to PT once a week and she is definitely making improvements, but not walking yet.  When Caleb walked at 17 1/2 months, I never thought our next child would walk even later than that!

*  Started pulling up to her knees shortly before turning 16 months (just before Thanksgiving) – around 11/21

*  Started doing a few short forward crawling movements (on hands and knees) around the same time.  She would army crawl on her belly until she was just shy of what she wanted to pull up on, then she’d crawl just a few short “steps” to her target.

*  I don’t know the exact date, but I’d say she started officially crawling around 16 1/2 months old.

*  She pulled up to her feet all on her own for the first time on January 1st!  Since then, she does it all the time.  She has a different way of doing it but she gets it done.  We are working on getting her to stand the traditional way.

*  Her first canine tooth (bottom, right) broke through on January 1st.

*  She can say a few words now, although most people wouldn’t know what she’s saying!

Daddy – She has started saying this all the time!  It’s really sweet, but I am jealous, LOL.  If you point at Rhett and say “Who’s that?” she will answer you.  She also says “daddy!” when she hears the garage door open when Rhett gets home.

Mama – she says it, but rarely and I don’t even think it’s in relation to me.

Hi – usually when playing with a toy phone.  I have gotten her to wave and say “hi” a few times, though.
Sock – I don’t know why she likes socks, but she does.  What she says sounds more like “cock” though, ha!

Cracker – sounds like “kaka.”  She calls pretty much any little snack item (puffs, crackers, goldfish) a cracker.

Cookie – This was actually the first recognizable word she said.  She said it at home one night and then the next day at PT, she said it again (in relation to some toy cookies they have.)  One of the therapists there said “Did she say cookie?!” so we weren’t the only ones to decipher one of her words.

Kitty Cat – She said this quite a few times when we were at Rhett’s parents’ house over Christmas.  Megan and Mark brought their cat over and she said “kit kat” much to our surprise!  She hasn’t really said it since, but we are never around cats otherwise.

*  She finally started waving “bye bye” over Christmas when she saw her cousin, Adam, do it a lot.  Now, she loves to wave “bye bye” and will also wave “hi” now.

*  She’s not the greatest eater but it could be worse.  I think she’s better at trying things than Caleb was/is.  Doesn’t mean she will eat just anything, but she’ll at least put new things in her mouth before spitting them out.  Some of her favorites are scrambled eggs w/cheese, waffles and pancakes w/syrup, greek yogurt, cheese, apple sauce, strawberries, blackberries, kidney beans, toast w/butter, cinnamon bread, avocado, Tyson chicken fries, Chick-fil-a nuggets, not all but other chicken forms, bananas, goldfish, other crackers, Puffs, hot dogs, and milk.  She will also sometimes eat mandarin oranges, peaches, grapes, some meat dishes that I cook, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes and sweet potato.  As you can see, we have issues with getting her to eat veggies!  Ugh!!  I also wish she would drink more water, but she almost always turns it away for milk.

*  She knows where her head, nose, mouth, tummy and feet are.  Still need to work on some others, but she’s pretty good about showing you where these are.

*  She knows a few animal sounds – duck, cow, sheep and monkey.  She will make duck and cow sounds on her own, but for sheep and monkey, she mostly just repeats it back if you do it.

*  She can throw a mean tantrum and if you are holding her, you’d better protect your face because she thrashes around and has been known to head butt before, LOL.  She is the sweetest little thing, though.  It’s kinda crazy how she can be so sweet and throw these crazy body flinging tantrums!  (and she is strong for her size – just ask the doctors, PA, NP and nurses who have to help hold her down for ear checks!)

*  She loves playing with anything that Caleb is playing with.  For the most part, he is really good with her and they play well together.  Of course, they often want what the other has and that results in Aubrey screaming/screeching like a stuck pig!  Seriously, she’s got this screech that is ear piercing!  She loves playing cars and trains with Caleb (but totally destroys the train track set up!).  They also enjoy playing under the table & chairs together.  I don’t know what it is about tables, but kids love to play under them.

*  She LOVES to look at books!  She points at various things in the pictures and I tell her what they are.  She really enjoys doing that.

*  She is a dancing machine!  She’s got so many different moves, it is hilarious!  I love how kids just dance without thinking twice about it.  It’s so funny and cute.

*  She still loves playing in clothes.  I mean LOVES it!  If she’s really quiet in her room, almost always she has gotten into her dirty clothes basket and is just flinging the clothes around and playing with them.  Who needs toys?!

*  She has figured out how to climb (crawl) up stairs and she LOVES it.  I do not love it b/c it makes me a nervous wreck.  (and we are soon to move into a 2-story house – fun!)  She started getting really interested in the stairs at Rhett’s parents’ house over Christmas.  We went over there quite a few times while Travis and Holly were in.  At first, she could be trusted just to sit and play at the very bottom of the stairs by herself b/c she couldn’t climb up them.  Well, by the end of our Christmas “break” she had figured out how to get up on the first step and could no longer be left alone at the stairs anymore!  We also do stair climbing at PT and she now has mastered it and loves it!  The first thing I’m buying for the new house is a gate for the stairs!!

*  If looks could kill…..you wouldn’t want to get on Aubrey’s bad side, LOL.  She has lots of facial expressions and when she is unsure of you, or if she doesn’t want you anywhere near her (strangers), you will know by the look on her face!  Also, when she’s mad you will know!  When she’s happy, she is beaming!  There is never any question as to how she feels!

That’s about all I can think of at the moment.  Stay tuned for a pictures post!
