Aubrey is 2 Months Old!

My free time is quite limited these days so I've actually been working on this post for over 2 weeks!  Some things have already changed from when I started writing this, but I'll leave it as is for memory's sake.  And I have about 10 others lined up but who knows when I will get to them.......

Our sweet girl turned 2 months old on September 29th!  Time is flying by!

We are slowly (and I mean VERY SLOWLY) adjusting to life with two kids.  I was talking to my friend, Nancy, the other day and she said she thought #2 would be so much easier and she'd bounce right back within no time...but it just didn't happen that way.  I feel the exact same way!  I thought, since we'd already done the newborn phase with one, the second would just be much easier and we'd be "back in business" in no time at all.  Boy was I wrong!  Now, some things are easier - like just dealing with having a newborn in general is not so scary like it is the first time and for the most part, you know what to expect.  But, it kinda ends there.

I just feel like I haven't been able to get back into the swing of things like I'd hoped.  I have not been to church once (actually, not since I was on bedrest!  I am ready to go back!) and I have only been brave (or crazy) enough to take both kids to the store by myself once.  Rhett and I are now the directors of our Sunday school class and Rhett is pretty much doing all of that by himself.  I also help coordinate all of our women's and mom's events and I've barely done anything with that (thankfully, some of my friends have stepped up and taken care of it!)  I just have not been able to think about anything other than surviving each day with a toddler and a newborn.  It is hard to keep up with Caleb (he is so busy), feed Aubrey all the time, get her to sleep enough, work on getting her on a schedule, try to keep the house from completely falling apart, and remember to eat and drink enough myself during the day.

And having my quiet time...well, let's just say it is almost never quiet in my house anymore!  For some reason, I have not had the best luck getting both kids napping at the same time.  It always seems that Aubrey needs to eat shortly after Caleb goes down and then she will take forever to go to sleep.  By the time I get her to sleep, it's time to get Caleb up....and there went my opportunity for kid-free time.  I just can't seem to get Aubrey on a consistent schedule yet.  And you would think maybe I'd have some ample free time in the evening after Caleb goes to bed, but for the most part, we don't.  Caleb goes to bed and then I will have to feed her and go to bed myself.  There is no staying up to do what I please after she goes to bed because I need to get as much sleep as I can.  So you see, it is tricky!  Right now, both kids are actually in bed and asleep and I have a little time before her last feeding of the day but this is a rare occasion.  We are seeing a little improvement, though.

Anyway, life these days is a little hectic but we wouldn't trade it for anything!
Here's what Aubrey has been up to this month...

*  I lost the little paper they gave me at her appointment with her stats and I don't remember them exactly!  oops!  I know she was in the 25th percentile for weight (around 9 lbs 11 oz, I believe) and went up from 25% (at 1 month) to 40th percentile for height (around 22 inches long).  We still have the rental scale at home and I know that she's not getting a "full meal" from me still, so we still have to give her extra in a bottle.  Sometimes it's formula, but if I have enough pumped milk to give her then I give her that.  She takes 1-2 additional ounces from a bottle.  Every now and then she will actually get enough from me to not need a bottle.  I'm trying a few things to increase my milk supply so we'll see how that goes.

*  She got her first round of vaccinations and did great.  She only cried for about 30 seconds and that was it.  No fever.  No extra fussiness.  No reactions.  Yay!

*  She is wearing 3 month clothes (or 0-3 months, depending on the brand) and size 1 diapers.  It was kinda sad to put away the newborn clothes, but the fun thing about babies outgrowing their clothes is that they get an entirely new wardrobe!  :-)

*  I know I said this last month, but I just have to say it again - she does not have reflux like her brother did!!!!  This is something I prayed for before she was born...an answered prayer, for sure.  It is like night and day.  She spits up every now and then, but she almost always goes an entire day in just one outfit and does not have to wear bibs!  Caleb went through like 5+ outfits a day and had to wear bibs because he spit up so much.  Oh, and we have way more burp cloths than we would ever possibly need for her...again, very different than with Caleb.  I could not keep enough burp cloths clean for him!

*  She started smiling right around 6 weeks and smiles more and more every day.  It is so cute!  Smiling is one of the most precious milestones because up until that point, they just lay there like a bump on a log and you get no positive feedback.  At least once they start smiling, you know they are happy to see you!

*  She is still eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours during the day (mostly 3 hours) and at night, she usually goes longer (like 4-5 hours).  Bedtime is around 10pm or so.

*  If she takes a bottle, it's between 3-4 ounces now.

*  Still not on a great schedule but I think we are getting there.  I've said it before, but it's just harder to establish a schedule with her when I also have to take Caleb into account.  Maybe it's just me!  Plus, since she wakes up at different times each day and still isn't completely consistent with every 3 hour feedings, it kinda throws things off sometimes.  Once she is sleeping through the night and consistently going 3 hours or more during the day, I think we will get the schedule down.

*  She still sleeps after every feeding....so a lot!  Still sleeping in the bouncer but we are going to work on that soon.

*  Had her first fever, which resulted in her first hospital stay!  (and hopefully last)  I am working on a separate blog post about that.  NOT FUN!

*  Um, the #2 issues have gotten better.  She is not having to strain anymore but sometimes she will go a couple days w/o a #2 and then she is not in a good mood.  Sorry for the poop talk, but such is life with a baby!

*  Rhett thinks she doesn't like him.  He thinks she cries way more for him than for me.  I say if he lactated, she would like him more - ha!

*  Still not consistent with the tummy time....bad mommy!  We're working on it.  She's not too crazy about it, though.

*  We packed up and put away the swing because she just didn't care for it and it was taking up way too much space in our living room.  Maybe our next child will like it??  We have not gotten our money's worth out of that thing!  She is a bouncy chair baby just like Caleb.

*  She's not too crazy about independent "play" time.  She would rather be held (or eating or sleeping).  She fusses probably 75% of the time when you put her down on the activity mat or blanket.  Can't wait til she can be a little more self-entertaining or at least content to lay on the floor some.

*  She loves hair bows, headbands, and cute clothes....she asks me to buy her stuff all the time!  ;-)

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment.  The life of a 2-month-old isn't all that exciting!  Here are some pictures, although I haven't been great at taking a good variety of pics.

(our pictures are like an advertisement for the Fisher Price Rainforest Collection - ha!)
