19 Months Old

Another month has passed and Caleb is growing up right before our eyes! I think this age might be my favorite so far! This post is kinda long but he is just learning and changing so much that I want to document everything. :)

* I did not realize how many new words he has started saying this month until I started typing this! He still does grunt and point a lot, but we are really working on using our words. He jibber jabbers a LOT and it sounds like he is speaking Chinese! New words this month:

light ("ite") - a few weeks ago, he started pointing at the various lights in our house all the time...I guess just wondering what they were. We would tell him "light" every time, but he just kept pointing and making his inquisitive grunting noise. Finally, one day while we were eating lunch, he pointed to the light and said "ite" on his own.

outside ("tietie") - he LOVES playing outside.

dumptruck ("doedoe") - he's a boy. he loves anything with four wheels.

door ("dooor" with the "r" sounding more like a "w")

milk ("mii") - took him a while to start saying this...seems like this is one of the first few words that most kids say.

bite (he actually says it correctly most of the time...or "bi") - he has picked this up since I ask him a lot "do you want another bite?"

baby ("beebee" or sometimes correctly "baabee") - I tell him we will be getting a baby even though he's just too young to really understand that, but he does know what babies are.

vitamin ("minin" or "imin") - I started giving him chewy vitamins, and of course he thinks they are tasty. Right now, they are sitting on our bathroom counter (out of his reach & with a safety cap) and he asks for one every day. He also thinks that his Welch's fruit snacks are "minins", LOL.

poopoo (just like it sounds) - I have a habit of asking him "did you teetee?" or "did you poopoo?" when I know he's got a wet/dirty diaper. One day, I asked him and he said "poopoo" back to me. This isn't such a bad thing b/c it would be helpful if he could tell me he goes #2...so now I'm trying to teach him to tell me (this is how potty training starts, right? ha!) Now if I ask him, he says "poopoo" and points to his bottom, LOL. He has actually told us completely on his own a few times now!

teetee (just like it sounds) - I guess we have started talking about bodily functions now, haha! The other day we were at Walmart and I had to take him with me to the bathroom. As soon as we got in the stall, he started pointing at the toilet and saying "teetee! teetee! teetee!" I had to laugh! This is not a word we have intentionally worked on with him, but he's starting to pick up on words on his own now and this must be one we say a lot!

bubbles ("bub-o") - we got him a bubble-blowing lawn mower, and although he likes to push the mower around the yard, it does not blow bubbles very well. So, I took the bottle of bubbles off and left it on the patio table. He saw it one day and pointed to it, saying "bub-o."

lawn mower or mow ("momo") - he calls his mower a "momo" and when he hears the yard guys mowing our neighbor's yard, he points and yells "momo"

ketchup (sounds kinda like "tata" or "tet-a") - what he says doesn't sound much like ketchup but I know that's what he's saying b/c he gets excited and makes the same sound every time he sees the ketchup (and he points to the ketcup).

toe/toes ("toetoe") - obviously, he says this while pointing at his toes....and in case you haven't noticed, most everything he says is the same syllable repeated (toetoe, doedoe, gaga, tata, momo, etc)

treat/dog treat - honestly, I don't know how to describe what he says but he says the same thing every time he points at the dog treats. He LOVES to give treats to the dogs and asks to do so at least 10 times a day! (but we usually just stick to 2 or 3 at most) He always tries to take a little nibble himself before handing over the treat.

please ("peeee") - we are working on our manners! He doesn't say it much on his own yet, but if I ask him to say please, he will most of the time.

no ("nono") - a few times, he has pointed at something he's not supposed to get into and said "nono"....so he DOES know what this means whether he acts like it or not!

nose (also "nono") - he likes to point out body parts on himself and others.

Ruff Ruff ("fuffa") - this is one of his stuffed animals.

* He finally figured out how to stand up independently instead of knee-walking to the nearest thing he could pull up on after falling down.

* He figured out how to climb up on the ottoman. Now, we REALLY have to keep an eye on him in the living room b/c he can get from the ottoman to the couch and likes to position himself dangerously close to the back of the couch. (I am SO afraid he's going to fall off the back of the couch and really hurt himself!) He also likes to "free fall" backwards while on the couch and this makes me nervous also!

* I guess he got over his fear of grass because he will now walk all over the backyard. When we first started playing outside, he would just stay on the patio. (this means that mama has to pick up dog poop every time we go outside now - fun!)

* Speaking of the backyard, he likes to pick up sticks (learned this from Grandpa in Woodville) but instead of clearing the yard of sticks like Grandpa does, he just gives the sticks to Rio. He thinks this is a fun game!

* We got a slide/climber for the backyard and he's learned how to climb up the ladder and slide down by himself. At first, he would climb up but then get frustrated that he couldn't get down. Now that he's figured out how to slide, he enjoys playing on it.

* I mentioned last month that he says "hot" in relation to the fire, stove, and dishwasher. Well, I figured out that he really does know what hot means. I was using Rhett's laptop in the living room and Caleb touched the power box (I don't know what it's really called but it's the thing that connects the power plug w/the plug that goes into the computer). Since the computer had been running for a while, the box was warm so Caleb said "hot" when he touched it. I was amazed that he's actually put 2+2 together and figured out what I mean by hot! I have never said hot in relation to that power box. What a little smartie. :)

* He likes to point out his family members in pictures and name them....specifically, Dada but he also names Mama, Rio, Tag, and Girl as well. On our entryway table, we have a picture of Rhett and I (pre-Caleb) at an Astros game. He loves to snatch the picture and walk around naming Dada and Mama. Also, on the wall behind the couch there is a picture of all three puppies and he excitedly points at it yelling "Oreo!" "TaTa!" "GaGa!" We need to start working on the extended family now.

* He loves the sound of airplanes flying over our house...and even better when we can actually spot them! We live not far from a flying school, so there are small airplanes flying overhead quite often. Sometimes we even hear or see big planes...all are equally exciting. He stops whatever he's doing, looks up, and points to the sky. We actually have quite a few trees in the back so it's hard to actually spot the planes through the trees, but he still loves it when they fly over.

* Also in the backyard (where we've been spending a lot of time these past few weeks), whenever he hears a neighbors' dog bark, he yells "pup-pup!"

* The teeth-brushing ordeal has gotten even worse. If I brush them by myself, I have to hold him down in order to do it. At night when Rhett helps, Rhett has to hold his arms while I brush...and all the while he is screaming bloody murder. It's terrible and I hate it, but I don't know what else to do. We HAVE to brush his teeth.

* He's gone from taking 3 hours naps to closer to one hour...boo!! AND, he's back to taking forever to fall asleep at night. You'd think that since he's not napping as much, he'd be exhausted and fall asleep right away at night...but, no. He has been taking at least an hour to fall asleep on most nights.

* I would say his favorite toys right now are still all of his cars (the Tonka ones and Hot Wheels), his Little People school bus, and his fridge farm and carwash magnet sets. He also loves his stuffed animals and kisses and hugs them many times every day - it is too cute! He also kisses his cars. I guess he loves them that much.

* I say this every month, but I will say it again...the boy loves music! We listen to the radio every day and if I do not turn it on, he goes up to the entertainment center, points to it, and starts dancing. I guess this is his way of asking me to turn the music on!

* We went to Build-A-Bear for the first time and got a monkey (with sound). Now he knows what sound a monkey makes and thinks his monkey is a funny guy. (his monkey sound is kinda like "hoo hoo hoo")

* We took him to the Downtown Aquarium and the Houston Rodeo for the first time this month (more pics to come)

Ok, now for the pictures....

helping out Daddy by mowing the grass

we like to sit on the bench outside and watch for airplanes (for about 5 seconds)

lawn mower maintenance is hard work

now I will mow Grandpa's yard!

and help Grandpa pick up sticks

at the Downtown Aquarium

gonna check out what's underneath this thing...

hmmm...interesting!

oh no, I'm stuck!

just keepin' it real....it's not all fun and games around here :)

doing two things he's not supposed to do...climbing up on the end table and messing with the phone

"hi!" (he answers the phone and then talks jibber jabber into it)

petting zoo at the Rodeo

trying to open the door (probably wishing Daddy was coming home!)

this is what happens when little boys climb on boxes...they fall!

the only thing more fun than climbing ON boxes is playing IN them!

and there he goes on top of the box

boxes are more fun than real toys!
