Wow, I can't believe it's already mid-May and Caleb is just 3 months away from turning two! He is a busy boy these days and is doing new and funny things all the time. Here are some things from this past month....
* new words: (I'm probably missing some b/c I haven't been writing them down along the way...)
phone (pretty much like it sounds)
snack ("nack") - when it's snack time, he says snack and points to the cabinet where I keep his snack cups.
fan (sounds something like "foo") - we use a small fan in his room to make noise while he sleeps. he points to it and says fan when it's time for bed.
grass ("gaa")
stick (kinda sounds like "tick") - he is obsessed with sticks and has to find one every time we go outside.
bird ("burr")
inside ("in") - the other day he was whining at the backdoor (it was really hot so I guess he had had enough of being out) so I told him he had to ask nicely to go inside. we are working on it, but he's been doing pretty well and will say "in" to go inside probably half the time.
plate ("pay")
cold ("co") - he knows the difference between hot and cold.
wet (just "we" with no "t" sound)
hair ("haya")
mowing (just like it sounds) - he now says both "mow mow" and "mowing"....he's obsessed!
going (just like it sounds)
daddy - Rhett is now daddy instead of "dada"
bobo (just like it sounds) - he's taken a liking to pointing out bobos (including zits - gee, thanks!)
yuck ("yu")
eww ("eeow") - he thinks bobos are "eww"
home ("ho")
Grandpa (sometimes "pawpaw", other times "gege")
read ("ree")
eat (pretty much like it sounds)
* He said his first two-word phrases: "Daddy mowing" (told you, he is obsessed!) and "Mimi going" (when Rhett's parents were leaving our house the other day)
* He likes to jump and can get a few millimeters off the ground, LOL
* He also likes to spin in circles.
* He's not into reading as much right now, but we think it's because he's tired of his books. Guess we need to get him some new ones to change things up.
* Every time we go outside, he has to find a stick to carry around. A lot of the time, he will leave a stick right by the back door for when we go out the next time, ha! If he forgets to do that, he walks around saying "stick, stick" until he finds one he likes. Sometimes he will break the stick and then want one of us to put it back together. Sorry, son - it doesn't work like that.
* He asks to go bye-bye often. Where he wants to go, I don't know. Maybe that means he's getting bored with me at home!?
* The dogs always go crazy and bark when Rhett gets home and they hear the garage door open (and Caleb runs to the door yelling "daddy!").....so if they ever hear a noise and just start barking, Caleb automatically thinks that Daddy is home and runs to the door. He loves his daddy!
* He's always looking for something to get into. If he's not supposed to be in it, that's where he is. I don't even know why we have toys b/c he'd rather just get into stuff.
* He stands at the windows and watches Rhett mow the yard while pointing and yelling "mow mow!" or "Daddy mowing!" or "mowing! mowing! mowing!" He also likes to watch the yard guys mow all the neighbors' yards.
* The temper tantrums have gotten a bit better....either that, or I am just used to them now!
* If we are even in the general area of Chick-fil-a, Caleb starts mooing (at the big inflatable cow they have out front). It is so cute and funny! He does it even before he sees the cow....he's got a good memory!
* I always ask him for a hug and kiss right after I change his diaper (b/c when else do I have him still?) and I've done it so many times that he automatically does it now....only really quickly like "ok, mom - let's get this over with." too cute!
* He wants his bobos kissed...even after they've gone away. I guess he thinks they are still there!
* If you ask him what color something is, he always answers "geen" no matter what color it is. We will keep working on colors!
* He identifies most animals by what sound they make (like calling a monkey a "hoohoohoo" and a lion is a "grrrrrrr"). I try to get him to say the actual names, but so far he won't.
* Caleb loves Rio ("rio-rio-rio" to him) and they play ball all the time. When we're visiting my parents, if my dad tries to wrestle with Caleb, Rio starts circling and getting upset as if he's trying to hurt Caleb. I never thought Rio would be protective of him, but he is. The other two do not react this way, though.
* He also loves to "love on" Roux and she is so good with him, too. He tackles her and hugs her (and not always in a gentle way) and she just takes it. Tag just tries to stay away from him but is not mean or aggressive towards him. I've really been surprised at how well they've done with him, especially as he gets more active and crazy!
* He still hates to have his teeth brushed but it has gotten a little better. I let him hold and look at something he normally doesn't get to hold (like toiletry items in the bathroom) and that keeps him entertained and distracted enough for us to not have to hold him down much anymore. Sometimes he is just not having it, though and we will still have to wrestle him down to get them brushed.
* He is afraid of the vacuum cleaner and also does not like it when I dry my hair. (the noise, I guess) I try to get him to "help mama" clean using the swiffer while I vaccum and that helps some.
* Although he is a typical messy kid, he can also be careful and meticulous about some things. Sometimes when he puts something down and it falls over, he will not move on until he's picked it up and placed it just right in the spot where he wants it.
* Even without telling him, he seems to know what is mine and what is Rhett's (things around the house). He always points to things and says "mama" or "daddy" depending on who's it is (for example, bathroom/toiletry items that are mine vs. Rhett's). He is very observant, I guess!
see...always with a stick!
yes, the stick is blurry because he's whacking Rio with it...
my view looking down at both Caleb and Aubrey :-)
he's thinking "should I hit Rio with the stick or hide the squirrel from him?"
chasing Rio (with the stick)
and again with the stick. poor Rio!
"mmm...PB&J!"
we're working on using a fork and spoon. it gets messy!
Caleb ran away (streaking) from Daddy before bathtime and tried to hide under the table, LOL. the dogs weren't far behind!
every time he hears me getting ice from the fridge he comes running. bonus if he can scrounge up a piece that falls on the floor! (fyi, I do take the big pieces away from him)
I walked into the kitchen to find this one day. I haven't seen him do it again, but I thought it was funny that he had lined up his cars.
saving the stick for later...
I was trying to take pics of our diaper shower gifts and Caleb could not resist "hiding" the ball from Rio on top of the diapers...
most of the time he refuses to use his fork or spoon. mac n cheese is so messy w/o using utensils...
most of it ends up in his lap...
at Haven's 2nd birthday party. (I worked with Haven's mommy, Jaime, at BCP and we were "belly buddies". Haven is 3 months older than Caleb.)
mmmm...a cupcake and juice - heaven!

David liked to line up his things too...cars, planes, video tapes...it's cute and funny. :) I thought he was OCD or something the first few times I saw it.
