Caleb is 22 months old and very soon, he will just be "2" or "2 1/2" because I think you stop counting in months after the 2nd birthday....that makes me a little sad! It is so fun to watch him grow up and change and learn new things, but at the same time I don't want him to get any bigger! Here are some things about Caleb that I don't want to forget :-)
* Soon, I will have to stop recording each new word b/c he will be saying everything! I think his vocabulary is really about to take off as he is saying more and more every week. He will now at least attempt to say most words when you ask him to and does pretty well repeating them back to you, but not all words stick with him yet. Before, if he couldn't say it he would just make a grunting sound in reply. I like to play the "can you say....." game just to hear him say different things!
remote ("mote") - he doesn't watch TV but he likes to play with the "motes" and he knows what to do with them (he points them at the TV, ha!)
play ("pay") - he started saying this on vacation. I guess we must have asked him a lot if he was ready to play with his friend, Caleb (Pearce). Now, if he's having to do something he doesn't want to do (like diaper changes or going to bed), he will say "pay!" over and over in a really sad voice telling us he'd rather be playing!
uh-oh ("uh-oooooo") - he picked this one up from Caleb P. on vacation.
potty ("pot-tee") - we are no where near potty training (as far as I know) but I figure we might as well try to talk about the general concepts....can't hurt anyway! he knows potty, teetee, and poopoo - ha!
Aubrey ("ob-eee") - I taught him how to say his sister's name and it sounds so sweet coming from him. :-)
wow ("woooooowaa") - I'm not sure where he learned this from but he seems to say it at appropriate times (well, appropriate "wow moments" for a toddler anyway). I first noticed him saying it as he was watching Rhett and G-Dad building his bed!
up (just like it sounds) - if he needs help getting up onto something
down ("dowm") - usually when he's ready to get out of his high chair
again ("gin")
pinecone ("pa-come") - I think daddy taught him this one (we have a pine tree in the back yard)
hotdog ("hot-taw")
help ("hep") - when I am cleaning, he likes to help by pushing around the swiffer or a broom. he is so sweet!
barn ("bom")
Elmo ("eh-mo") - we have a few Sesame Street books and he's learned who Elmo is.
cookie ("kee-kee") - this applies to both real cookies and Cookie from his Sesame Street books!
Mickey (just like it sounds) - every now and then I will turn on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I'm getting ready in the morning (trying to keep him occupied for like 30 minutes) so he knows who Mickey is now. However, he will only watch for a minute or two and then he goes back to getting into stuff...and then he might go back and watch another minute, but that's it. The one thing he does like is when they do the "hotdog dance" at the end (I have yet to figure out why it is called that). At first, he thought Mickey was "hotdog" and I had to correct him. (he saw Mickey in the store and yelled "hotdog!" - LOL)
home (pretty much like it sounds) - he starts saying "home" when we get into our neighborhood now.
apple ("abba" or "appa")
cup (just like it sounds)
* he is saying more 2 word phrases and since he likes to point out things that belong to mama or daddy, some of his favorites are: mama's shoes, daddy's shoes, kay-kay's shoes (he is kay-kay), mama's chair, daddy's chair, kay-kay's chair (at the dinner table), daddy's pants (who knows why he points that out), pup-pup tee tee (when I let the dogs outside, ha!), pup-pup night night, hi daddy, bye bye daddy, daddy work, daddy home, more water (or milk, bread, grapes, cheese, etc)
* Sometimes he will actually pick up and put away toys without being asked. He's a really sweet boy!
* He helps feed the dogs every day now. We'll scoop the food for him, one scoop at a time, and he'll go to each bowl and pour it in. It's so cute how he does it - he goes to the bowl, squats down, and then very carefully pours the food out. If any pieces fall onto the floor, he will pick each one up individually and put it back into the bowl. We usually do it in the same order (Roux, Rio, Tag) but occasionally he decides he wants Rio to get his food first and he'll go up to Rio's bowl and say "Rio Rio" to tell us that he's going to feed Rio!
* He's started imitating us a lot more. He got ahold of my makeup sponge the other day and started rubbing his face with it. Then he got Rhett's clippers and acted like he was clipping his own toe nails, LOL. He also wants to put a headband of mine on his head or wear Rhett's baseball caps (just long enough to look in the mirror and laugh) Sometimes he will do something and Rhett and I just wonder how he knows that...he is so observant! It's true what they say about how little eyes are always watching!
* He likes to play with his ring stacker. He'll put the wrong one on and say "no, no, no" then try out another (saying "no, no, no" if its wrong) until he gets it in the right order.
* When we pull up to an eating place, he starts saying "eat! eat!" (he started this on vacation)
* He goes to the grocery store with daddy every week and Rhett says he's started saying "food" when they're walking in. It's funny how he makes that connection.
* We changed his crib into a toddler bed when we got back from vacation. The first night back, I just so happened to be watching the monitor and I saw him nearly flip out head first as he was lifting himself up on the railing. (ok, maybe it wasn't that close but it freaked me out!) The next day, we put the toddler rail on and he has done great ever since! I was really worried he'd get in and out and we'd have to fight him to stay in bed (especially for naps) but he's actually only gotten out a handful of times. I just go tell him to get back in bed and he does! Twice, he has ended up on the floor and I don't know if he fell out of the opening or got out and just layed on the floor.
* He can put his puzzles together (the ones with big pieces) and he get really excited when I ask if he wants to do puzzles. He runs to his room and points at the closet where I keep them put away. However, they do not hold his attention for very long and I'm wondering when the attention span lengthens. (actually, not much holds his attention for very long!)
* We are still going through a stage of defiance. When you tell him not to do something, often he will look you square in the eyes as he does it again very deliberately. This drives both of us crazy! He tests my patience like no one ever has! (but, I guess this is normal....right?!)
* He can now sometimes point out red or blue things (not just green). However, he still thinks most things are green.
* We're still working on eating with a fork and/or spoon but I don't feel like we're making much progress. At this point, he'd rather bang them on the table. If I want him to really use them, I have to help him scoop or stab the food and then he can get it into his mouth on his own. We're also working on drinking out of a regular open cup. He does pretty well with the first few sips and then usually dumps it out on himself and the floor.
* He's on somewhat of a vegetable strike lately. He used to devour carrots and now he's not too interested....and green beans are even more of a challenge (I guess we don't branch out much beyond carrots and green beans yet). I can bribe him to eat them by offering fruit or cheese, though. He takes a couple bites of veggie and then I'll give him a bite of something he wants. I don't really like doing that but he's gotta eat his veggies somehow!
* He could eat fruit all day and his new favorites are apples and grapes (which he would not eat for a while).
* I've gotten him in the habit of giving me a "sugar" right after a hug, and he thinks that sugars can only be given on the mouth. A few times, after he's hugged someone other than us (like friends of ours...or other people who just don't really want to get a mouth kiss from another person's kid-ha!), he goes to give a sugar and as they turn to get one on the cheek, he will do everything he can to get to their mouth, LOL. He just doesn't understand why he can't give them a little peck on the lips!
* We put him to bed around 8:30pm. As much as I wish we could still do the earlier 7-7:30pm bedtime, he is just not tired AT ALL at that time. Actually, most days he would last well past 8:30pm and a lot of nights, he just plays and talks in his bed for an hour or two. He sleeps until 8-8:30am on most days.
Ok, so I was looking back at my pictures and realized that I was REALLY terrible at taking pictures this month! The majority of the ones I do have are from vacation and I have yet to finish that post...hopefully soon! Here are some other pictures that I do have, although there aren't many.....
playing with Grandpa's turkey decoy (we went to stay with them for a few days while Daddy went to San Francisco for work)
Morning after his first night of sleeping in the toddler bed - he did great!
watching Daddy and G-Dad build his big boy (twin) bed...he was glued to the window!
always wanting to help Daddy in the garage....
we found him like this on the floor one morning...pretty sure he must have gotten out to get "Ra" (the giraffe) and then just layed down and went back to sleep!
Caleb and "BeBe" once again...
